The Gunners' boss has expressed confidence that his squad can persist in handling with injury setbacks following confirming that forward Kai Havertz is not ready for several more weeks.
Prolonged Recovery for German Star
Havertz has been sidelined since the summer following an operation on his knee. Hoped to return sooner, Arteta revealed the player hit a snag when increasing his rehabilitation and was unable to move forward “to the next level.”
“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a group that is far more dependable and has increased versatility,” stated the manager.
Selection Dilemma for Midweek Fixture
This development leaves a tactical puzzle for the midweek fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. A decision is required between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who found the net playing out of position last weekend, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who came back after a fitness issue as a substitute. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus remains in contention following a lengthy absence.
Fitness Doubts Linger
Additional concerns surround defender William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the Stamford Bridge game. As a result, summer signings Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié will probably keep their places in central defence for the league leaders.
Arteta believes the significant outlay on new players during the summer has placed the club in a far better place to navigate such unavailability.
Greater Options Key to Title Challenge
When asked if more options was helping their championship push, Arteta was emphatic. “Indeed, because this season has been worse in some areas, and now the problems with the backline,” he added.
“History has shown us that we need to utilize players in various roles, and they must be capable to perform various functions if we are to fight at this level. And the example of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”
Arteta's Support for Frustrated Star
Addressing the complication noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided more insight. “He was doing everything. He could not go to the required step and now the signs are like we have solved that issue.”
Arteta expressed his keenness to see him return. “The team is keen to have him. Honestly, he is a footballer who, in my view, I value highly for the qualities he offers to the team, but his personality, his nature. I see him suffer on the sidelines.”
“His fitness history is exceptional, he's rarely been injured, and I can’t wait to have him back involved and playing because I believe it’s going to be a significant uplift.”
