It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major film company and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
