The Gaming Giant Hires Popular Battle Royale Developer to Rescue Troubled Action Game Ambitious Title
2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Change Comes After Mixed Reception
The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster initial reveal last fall.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the necessity for a more defined game identity.
Ismailer noted that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a renewed vision, aiming to address player expectations.
Trend of Key Hires
This announcement mirrors a similar action taken by the publisher in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the entire message from Ismailer's announcement:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just completed your meeting - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative developers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to endure.”
Given your hard work and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It affirmed the potential of a action-packed game but told us we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the requirement for a more distinct identity.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the input to consideration and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed goal - one that’s poised to achieve its ambition to our fans.
The trust in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the outstanding progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome the new hire as the latest Studio Head of the team. Following some time of conversations, he officially joins us on the specified date.
His guidance and experience in the PVP shooter genre is considerable, having dedicated the past decade and a half developing and leading some of the most recognizable titles in the industry, including the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in receiving Ben in the coming days. We are all looking forward to keep observing the development of Project ETHOS in the time to follow.
David

Game Information and Concept
Project Ethos was unveiled in last year alongside a community playtest. Initially, 31st Union presented the title as a "no-cost, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an exciting evolution on the style."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch reads. "Take on the competition with fresh skills, risks, and obstacles that change every round. Do you safely extract with your hard-earned loot? Or go big, gamble everything, and trust your team can earn top ranking? The decision is yours."
The game lacks an confirmed debut schedule or supported systems, but fans can anticipate additional details as creation progresses.
